More Than An Image It's a Fire
As a Body Image and Empowerment Coach & Photographer, I always try to explain to my clientele when booking, during the preparation of the session, during the session and then once they are about to have their images revealed to them that this session is MORE than the images, it is about the experience, the transformation of who you were before the shoot to who you are after. I have seen so many women make monumental changes after a shoot, as the experience and what you learn often sparks a new fire inside of you that you forgot all about. For some ladies the fire has completely burned out and there’s not even smoke to be seen anymore, but I have seen it be reignited. It’s magical, it’s what fulfills me, and it’s something that no one can express but must be felt.
Miss A came into my life through an event that I put on, which is funny to read about how she ended up there haha, but quickly her energy spoke to me. I introduced myself and all I thought was one day she’s going to be in front of my camera! Sure enough a few weeks later she applied for a specific theme I was looking for, I was so happy she applied! Miss A’s energy when she came into the studio was great, I knew she was going to give it her all, she was going to trust me to lead her. Our connection, her character and personality allowed us to create magic that day. Not only did it light a fire inside of her, but me as well. I could feel the transformation occur. I love seeing someone’s true personality be captured, which is what we did. We’ve had other chats since then and I can tell you that the person I met on day 1 is the person she is, and the soul she has is one of true authenticity. She is someone who you feel you have known forever, yet realize it’s been days. She is someone who you can travel to many places in a conversation, yet still be standing in the same place.
Miss A is someone who will light her own fire and never let it go out.
Miss A in her own words
What was your #1 motivator in having a boudoir session with me?: After attending an event Shannon put on as a guest to a member of her group, I fell in love with her photos, her message and her! I went to a boxing class, not having any idea as to who was putting it on or why and on my way to the studio my friend explained Artist Shannon Smith, her VIP group, her business and her mission. I was in terrified as I came into a space, not knowing anyone besides my friend, having never gone boxing before, and within minutes all my feelings of anxiety were gone. I thought if Shannon had managed to create a safe space at a boxing studio, that embarking on something like a boudoir session with her in her space must be the comfiest new experience. Having struggled with body image and self love, I thought, hell, this is the time I invest in me and do something empowering and positive.
How would you describe your session with me?: Professional, Fun, Comfortable.
Would you recommend having a boudoir session to your friends?: YES! EVERY WOMEN SHOULD TREAT THEMSELVES TO THE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITH SHANNON!
How often do you look at your images/product?: Daily
Would you do another session with me?: 100% and then some. I had an amazing time at my "daycation" with you!
I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon through a mutual friend, and I knew immediately it was not a coincidence that she was introduced into my life.
I responded to a "boudie call" (like seriously, how cute is the name of that?!) and patiently waited to hear back. The process was more than just booking a shoot. I filled out a little questionnaire and thought, this is going to be a life changing experience. Once I got the email back (less than a day) saying I was booked, she sent out all the information/forms I needed.
From the time I booked until session day, Shannon actively engaged me, sending reminders, tips and just checking in. I don't know any other photographer that puts that much time and care into their clients pre-shoot experience. I could tell Shannon strives to create something so much more than just a shoot, and she absolutely has.
I originally didn't book makeup and then changed my mind about a month out after my sister had said "if you are going to do this, do it right. You deserve to feel luxurious and having to do your own hair and makeup for the shoot is going to be stressful." I am so glad I ended up booking hair and makeup for my session because it was part of the whole experience.
Day of my shoot, I arrived to the studio, Shannon had coffee and we got to connect a bit before my hair and makeup artist arrived. I started feeling calmer and calmer as I got to talk to Shannon authentically about life and everything in between.
Leanne was my hair and makeup artist and I cannot sing enough praise about this women! She is a professional and extremely down to earth, just like Shannon. I immediately understood why Shannon works with Leanne and the end product of my time in the chair was a version of me I had never seen before! She didn't take away from my natural beauty, but she highlight my features in ways I couldn't have imagined. I thought DAMN as I looked at myself in the mirror.
Now the shoot. Shannon was alongside for the journey the whole time, she spent the time to help me get comfortable, provided tips and helped walk me through every step of the way. We talked and laughed throughout the whole session and it only solidified that I had picked the right photographer to capture me, sensual and strong, a way I had needed to see myself for a while now. Shannon was extremely sensitive to my feelings the whole time, making sure I was comfortable and feeling safe while being vulnerable. She understands that this is difficult and rewarding, scary and empowering and actually cared about my mental well-being just as much as she cared about getting the shot.
The reveal session was amazing, I was blown away by the products she offered and the photos she had taken. You can tell she really took the time to hand select what kind of products she was going to offer her clients, and it shows. I have never seen albums/products like that being offered by any other photographers I know, so it was really special and unique. I spent a good time vetting the photos I wanted in my album and Shannon never rushed me. It's a big decision and she 100% understood this.
I felt sexy, I felt fierce, I felt strong and that is why I chose to embark on this whole experience in the first place. Shannon takes amazing photos, I mean her work speaks for itself, but the real reason I wanted to do this session with Shannon was the experience that came along with working with someone like her. She has to be one of the most compassionate, understanding, patient, beautiful human beings I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and working with. She has curated something that goes beyond a typical boudoir session.
Thank you for capturing me in a way I needed to see myself.
